Luizinha is adopted by António and Ercília, a wealthy couple unable to have children. When Ercília dies, António marries Berta, a contentious stepmother who eventually ends up murdered. Among mothers, stepmothers, maids, and stepdaughters, no family has just one truth. And when the first corpse falls and everyone ends up in court, things get even more complicated.
